As Chelsea talks continue, legend advises Aston Villa to finalize the transfer of Romelu Lukaku.
Gabby Agbonlahor, a former Aston Villa striker, has pushed Unai Emery to sign Romelu Lukaku this summer.
The Chelsea forward spent the 2022/23 season on loan with Inter Milan, scoring 10 goals in 25 league games. Lukaku struggled with injuries last season, but he finished with 12 goals in his final eight league games.
After selling Danny Ings to West Ham for £15 million in January, Villa are looking to add another center-forward to their roster this summer. And Agbonlahor believes Belgium international Lukaku would be ideal for Villa.
“They need one more striker, similar to someone like Benteke, which I’d love,” Agbonlahor stated on talkSPORT. “At Villa, I’d take Lukaku.”
“He’d be an interesting option.” Ollie Watkins is fantastic, but can he play Thursday, Sunday, Thursday, Sunday? No, he cannot. He requires some rest and rotation.”
Chelsea paid a club record amount of £97.5 million to re-sign Lukaku from Inter Milan in 2021, seven years after selling him to Everton, only to loan him back to the Serie A club less than a year later. He will hold talks about his future at Stamford Bridge in the following weeks.
Villa will compete in the Europa Conference League next season if they win a two-legged play-off tie in August. Emery wants to strengthen his squad this summer in order for Villa to fight on all four fronts: the Premier League, Europe, and the two domestic cup tournaments.
