Liverpool is looking for a new midfielder after a turbulent transfer window. After having so many difficulties with the current pack this season, the need for a core player is critical.
Jurgen Klopp continues to press the club to sign a new midfielder, but the available options are limited. Liverpool appeared to be interested in Enzo Fernandez until it became evident that Benfica would only consider a proposal worth his €120 million release clause.
Similarly, they may have dropped out of contention for top target Jude Bellingham. However, with Manchester City now in the fight, the Borussia Dortmund star is expected to join Pep Guardiola’s team or Real Madrid, who may have risen to the top of the table.
Hence the need to switch targets and Valencia’s Yunus Musah is reportedly being considered as an option. The former Arsenal youth is also a target for his old club, while Chelsea reportedly keeps track of his situation.
Musah is coming on the back of a brilliant World Cup individually. His displays for the USMNT have grabbed plenty of attention from Premier League sides as Valencia braces for offers from clubs for the 20-year-old.
His profile certainly suits what Liverpool needs. The 20-year-old’s combative style and energetic presence would help Klopp immensely, but much will depend on his price tag.
If Liverpool is serious, they must remain wary of interest from Arsenal and Chelsea. However, the Gunners can consider themselves in an excellent position if they pursue the midfielder.
Chelsea may possibly re-enter the market following the failure of their pursuit of Enzo Fernandez. They have also demonstrated a penchant for extravagant spending, which may be the case with Musah. However, like Liverpool, their midfielders have underperformed in what has been a disappointing season overall.
Musah is under contract until 2026, and he has a large release clause. His current market value is roughly €25 million, but Valencia could demand much more if more than one club enters the race. The amount the club would require is unknown, but it could be within Premier League clubs’ budgets.
