Liverpool tip to sign 20-year-old Bayern Munich midfield starlet to replace James Milner

Liverpool is keeping a close eye on the 20-year-old Bayern Munich starlet.

Liverpool is ‘closely monitoring’ the situation of Bayern Munich’s Dutch midfielder Ryan Gravenberch, according to renowned journalist Kenny Hau on the Die Bayern Woche podcast on Sport 1 (h/t Liverpool Echo).

Apart from the odd start here and there, the 20-year-old who joined the Bundesliga giants from Ajax in the summer has yet to establish himself in the starting lineup. And Liverpool, who are in desperate need of new midfielders, is reportedly considering the player as a possible replacement for Borussia Dortmund superstar Jude Bellingham.

Gravenberch has long been regarded as one of Europe’s most promising young players. He made his Ajax debut at the age of 16 and quickly established himself as a first-team regular before moving to the Bundesliga.

Despite his talent, Gravenberch has struggled to find playing time at Bayern. The German champions have a plethora of talent in midfield, including Leon Goretzka and Joshua Kimmich, both of whom are established club and international stars.

Liverpool, on the other hand, has been in desperate need of midfield reinforcements for some time. In recent seasons, the Reds have struggled with injuries and form in that area of the pitch, with players like Jordan Henderson and James Milner nearing the end of their careers.

Gravenberch would be an excellent addition to Liverpool’s midfield. As evidenced by his impressive goal-scoring record for Ajax, he is young, energetic, and has an eye for goal. His ability to drive forward with the ball and create chances would be a huge asset to the Reds, who have struggled in the middle of the park at times.

Moreover, Gravenberch is a very able defensive midfielder as well, which could add a dynamic sense to the Reds’ line-up. Liverpool are currently in a transitioning phase, with manager Jurgen Klopp looking to rebuild his squad given the Reds are going through an extremely tough season.

Of course, Liverpool’s ability to sign Gravenberch is not guaranteed. Bayern Munich are unlikely to part with such a promising young talent, and the player himself may be content to stay in Germany and continue his development.

Nonetheless, Liverpool would be wise to keep a close eye on Gravenberch’s progress in the coming months. If he continues to impress at Bayern and remains on the outskirts of the first team, the Reds should not be afraid to pursue him.
