Los Angeles Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh makes final decision to join Michigan

Jim Harbaugh has made a permanent mark to remember his unbeaten season with the Michigan Wolverines, as the new Los Angeles Chargers head coach celebrated by getting a commemorative tattoo.

During a sentimental return to Michigan to collect his championship rings, Harbaugh paid tribute to his former squad with some fresh ink following their national championship victory over Washington. Emblazoned on Harbaugh’s right arm is now the iconic Michigan “M” logo alongside the perfect 2023, 15-0 season record.

“I’m impervious to pain,” Harbaugh quipped in a social media video. “Coach Harbaugh, he’s a man of his word,” praised running back Donovan Edwards.

As the Wolverines gear up for the 2024 season aiming to retain their national title, they face the challenge without Harbaugh at the helm, who has been succeeded by offensive coordinator Sherrone Moore. Additionally, star quarterback J.J. McCarthy will be absent, having entered the 2024 NFL Draft after leading Michigan to glory.

Harbaugh’s move to the Chargers hasn’t diminished his deep connection to Michigan, where he not only coached but also shone as a college player before the Chicago Bears drafted him 26th overall in 1987. Earlier this year, Harbaugh clinched his NFL head coaching comeback after nearly ten years, his previous tenure concluding with the San Francisco 49ers in 2014.

“My love for Michigan, playing there and coming back to coach there, leaves a lasting impact. I’ll always be a loyal Wolverine,” Harbaugh said in a statement. “I’m remarkably fortunate to have been afforded the privilege of coaching at places where life’s journey has created strong personal connections for me.”

“From working as an assistant coach at Western Kentucky alongside my father, Jack, and time as an assistant with the Raiders, to being a head coach at USD, Stanford, the 49ers and Michigan – each of those opportunities carried significance, each felt personal.”

“When I played for the Chargers, the Spanos family could not have been more gracious or more welcoming. Being back here feels like home, and it’s great to see that those things haven’t changed.”

“The only job you start at the top is digging a hole, so we know we’ve got to earn our way. Be better today than yesterday. Be better tomorrow than today. My priorities are faith, family and football, and we are going to attack each with an enthusiasm unknown to mankind.”

“This organization is putting in the work – investing capital, building infrastructure and doing everything within its power to win. Great effort equals great results, and we’re just getting started.”

Jim Harbaugh, who is already gearing up for the 2024 season, could find himself in a sibling rivalry with his brother John Harbaugh, the head coach of the Baltimore Ravens. If Jim’s Chargers perform well and make it to the AFC playoffs, we could see a Harbaugh vs Harbaugh showdown.
