Leicester City have joined Luton Town and Sheffield United in pursuit of Blackburn Rovers attacker Sammie Szmodics, according to a report by GiveMeSport.
Leicester City are reportedly eyeing up a move for the forward as they prepare for life back in the Premier League. They have secured an immediate promotion from the Championship under the guidance of former Manchester City coach Enzo Maresca as they gear up for a big summer ahead.
Szmodics, 28, is expected to be a man in-demand in the upcoming transfer window and Blackburn Rovers are due to face a real battle to keep hold of him amid interest from elsewhere. His contract at Ewood Park runs until June 2026.
In this latest update regarding his situation by GiveMeSport, the Foxes have joined relegated top flight pair Luton Town and Sheffield United in the race for his signature. Meanwhile, West Ham’s links with him have been cooled.
Leicester City eye forward
Szmodics would be an eye-catching addition for Leicester City if they were able to lure him to the King Power Stadium and he would bolster their attacking department.
He finished this past campaign as the top scorer in the second tier after he scored 27 league goals. The Republic of Ireland international, who has two caps under his belt so far, fired 33 in all competitions.
Blackburn Rovers snapped him up back in 2022 and he has since become their most prized asset.
The Essex-born man found the net on seven occasions in his first year and has really pushed on since then.
Prior to his move to Lancashire, he had spells at local side Colchester United as well as Bristol City and Peterborough United.
Leicester City will need attacking reinforcements over the next couple of months, especially with Kelechi Iheanacho and Jamie Vardy out of contract next month.
What next for Blackburn Rovers man?
Szmodics needs to test himself at the top flight and this would be the ideal chance for him to do so.
Leicester City would be able to give him regular game time and could provide him with the platform to show what he can do.
As for Luton Town and Sheffield United, they are back in the Football League and he would be ideal for both of them. However, it would be a bit of a surprise to see him swap for a team in the same league.
