Luton Town Forest greed slammed as Premier League clubs shoot down £900m deal

Fulham is pursuing a transfer for the Blackburn Rovers player alongside Brentford and Luton Town.

This weekend’s goalless draw away at Middlesbrough may have been a good enough point, but after Eustace’s eight games in charge, Rovers have now drawn six and lost two. Wins in the upcoming weeks will probably be necessary if they want to stay in the second division of English football.

If it weren’t for Sammie Szmodics’ goals, Rovers might already be in the bottom three. Ahead of the summer transfer window, the Premier League is showing even more interest in the diminutive attacking midfielder as teams try to potentially capitalize on Blackburn’s circumstances.

Journalist Alan Nixon reported via his Patreon account that Fulham is now considering signing Szmodics as they look to bolster their roster in preparation for the 2024–25 season.

In a 1-1 draw with Plymouth Argyle at Ewood Park last weekend, the 28-year-old scored his 21st Championship goal of the year. The Cottagers dispatched one of their scouts, Brian Talbot, to watch the player in action.

Despite Blackburn’s on-field difficulties, Szmodics has had the season of his life thus far. Going into the international break, he has scored 27 goals in 40 appearances across all competitions in 2023–24; his previous best season was 16 goals for Peterborough United in 2020–21, when they were a League One team.

As Nixon revealed last weekend, Brentford and Luton Town are also keeping an eye on Szmodics, so Fulham is not the only team showing interest in him.

As the 2023–24 season draws to an end, Fulham may have the opportunity to take the lead because both the Bees and the Hatters are struggling at the bottom of the Premier League standings. By then, though, Szmodics should be a full international because he has been called up to the Republic of Ireland squad for their next games.

A court date scheduled for this past week to attempt and obtain approval for those funds to be moved to the UK has now been postponed until August. The situation at Ewood Park is pretty dire as Blackburn’s owners, the Venky’s, are currently unable to move any money from their home country of India to fund the club.

Blackburn will have some maneuverability now that Adam Wharton left for Crystal Palace in February, but come summertime, there may be another fire sale, with Szmodics probably drawing the most interest.
