When Ross Barkley limped off, in the first half, away to West Ham United on Saturday, was I the only one with this thought?
Could, with just one Premier League weekend to go, of the 2023/2024 season, we have seen the last of the midfielder in a Luton Town shirt?
Since joining Luton Town, back in August 2023, the former England midfielder has been lauded, by some, as the best player to ever wear our cherished shirt.
Ross has discovered a new lease of life and, if I’m correct, has embarked on the longest uninterrupted run in a first team shirt, wherever he’s played, steering clear of injury.
His ability to win the ball, hold on to it and drive the team forward has been a joy to watch, but with the Hatters now all but confirmed as being an EFL Championship side next season, will Luton Town be able to hang onto their prized asset?
After recovering the form he appeared to have lost since leaving Everton back in 2018, is he, to be brutally honest, too good for second tier football?
I believe he is and I’m hanging on to the hope that either he signed a deal that covers the 2024/2025 season or his loyalty to the club will see him stay.
It is probably a long shot but one I’m hanging on to until it is officially announced he is departing Kenilworth Road.
But what is your view?
