Tyson Walker is a Michigan State basketball legend.
The former Northeastern transfer was arguably the most talented player to suit up for the Spartans in the past few years. He came in as a great two-way player from Northeastern ahead of the 2021-22 season and he had an immediate impact.
While he averaged just 8.2 points and 4.3 assists in his first season with Michigan State, he shot about 47 percent from 3-point range. He improved in 2022-23, averaging 14.8 points and shooting over 45 percent from the floor. He was a big reason Michigan State was able to make the Sweet 16 and upset Marquette in the process.
In 2023-24, he started the season playing at a legitimate All-American level, averaging over 20 points per game, but he slowed down because of a groin injury and finished the season at 18.4 points per game, shooting just under 40 percent from deep. He was the best player on the team over the past two seasons and one of the main reasons the Spartans were able to make the NCAA Tournament.
It’s safe to say that we’ll all miss Walker. He was fun to watch and made the toughest shots look routine.

While the past few seasons of Michigan State basketball have been forgettable, Walker will be one of the most remembered Spartans in program history. He was just a great player on some mediocre teams. If he played with Cassius Winston and Co., he would be considered a Spartan legend — if he’s not already.
