Victorious in six games out of eight in Betclic ELITE, AS Monaco should be in second place in the championship, tied with ASVEL and Paris Basketball. Yes, but there you have it, the Roca Team is a step below, officially credited with a record of 5 victories for 2 defeats. And things are not about to change…
For good reason, the FFBB appeals chamber rejected the Principality club, we learned this Wednesday, November 13. After studying the Monegasque case on appeal on October 11, 2024, the Federation confirmed the sanction imposed by the league, without aggravating it. Meeting on Tuesday August 27, the Legal, Disciplinary and Regulations Commission of the LNB withdrew one victory from the ranking and another suspended, while imposing a fine of 20,000 euros on AS Monaco, for “breach of articles 342 and 344 of the LNB regulations concerning the club’s obligation of transparency and sincerity regarding the regulations relating to sporting fairness within the first professional division”.
Concretely, according to multiple sources, the Monegasque club was accused of having partly paid its star player Mike James, since 2022, thanks to an image contract concluded with the company Fedcom Media, a subsidiary of the Fedcom group, owner of the AS Monaco. Not communicated to the league, this contract then made it possible to artificially reduce the club’s payroll, and therefore the amount of the Luxury Tax that ASM must pay.
AS Monaco still has the possibility of sending the file to the CNOSF conciliators then, as a last resort, to the administrative court.
