Neemias Queta, a representative of Portugal at the international level, will take part in the Boston Celtics’ training camp in order to get ready for the 2023–24 season, the North American Basketball League team announced (NBA).
The list of 18 athletes compiled by coach Joe Mazzulla includes the Portuguese international centre, who was released by the Sacramento Kings on September 13 after two seasons.
On October 8th, Boston’s TD Garden will host the first of five preseason games against the Philadelphia 76ers.
Similar to what happened with the Sacramento Kings, for whom he had a two-way contract, Queta, 24, will be able to play for either the Boston Celtics or the secondary team, the Maine Celtics, to be used in NBA games, as well as in games played by the Development League (G-League)’s second team, the Stockton Kings.
The centre signed a “standard contract” with the Kings in August of this year, but was let go and became a free agent, giving him the option to sign with any other team to continue his career.
The Sacramento Kings selected the 24-year-old centre forward in the 39th overall pick of the 2021 NBA Draught, making him the first Portuguese participant in the competition.
