Crystal Palace are reportedly already scoping potential targets ahead of the summer transfer window, with Oliver Glasner said to want to add one thing to his squad.
Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner will be counting down the days to the end of the 2023/24 campaign as the Austrian looks to assess what his squad needs ahead of next season.
It’s been a difficult year for the Eagles, who have lacked consistency, highlighted by them still waiting to secure back-to-back wins in the Premier League this term with only seven games to go.
As the season enters the home straight, the rumours regarding the summer transfer window are heating up for every club, including Palace with new reports outlining what Glasner may look for ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.
Oliver Glasner’s summer transfer hopes at Crystal Palace explained
As reported by journalist Alan Nixon, Palace are ‘watching several targets’ based on the advice and wishes of Glasner.
‘Crystal Palace are watching several targets in Germany on the advice of new coach Oliver Glasner.’
‘Eagles have been taking in Bundesliga matches to check out some of the suggestions of Glasner who wants more athletic players in the side next season.’
‘Palace have put together a squad of skilful starlets but Glasner is keen to introduce harder and longer runners in the future.’
Based on Nixon’s report, it’s clear that the manager isn’t quite satisfied with his current squad at Palace, which he inherited in February from Roy Hodgson.
Oliver Glasner keen to make key changes to Crystal Palace in the summer
In recent years, the squad on show at Selhurst Park has rarely been short of entertainment, with a host of skilful and silky talents having adorned the red and blue.
It now looks as though Glasner is keen to balance the substance of his side slightly, with Nixon’s comments hinting at the manager’s desire to change the demographic of the squad.
A lot is missing from Glasner’s current team, who have secured just one win from the six games that the boss has been at the helm, telling of what must be addressed in the summer.
Considering that only Nottingham Forest, Burnley and Brentford have dropped more points from winning positions than Palace this season, it makes sense why the manager may want to strengthen his side with powerhouses in the market.
Only time will tell which players Palace consider to fit the style that Glasner is looking for, with it poised to be an interesting summer at Selhurst Park.
