PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Steelers are implementing a change for offensive coordinator Matt Canada in Week 9, moving him from the press box to the sideline, according to Pittsburgh Post-Gazette’s Gerry Dulac.
Canada typically coaches from up top, sending down plays to quarterback Kenny Pickett. In an effort to help the young quarterback improve, Canada will move down to the sideline and work closer with Pickett throughout the game.
This season, Pickett has shown flashes but has yet to put a complete game together within the offense. Through seven games, he’s completed 61% of his passes but has thrown just five touchdowns and four interceptions.
The Steelers offense as a whole has struggled throughout the year, ranking in the bottom five of almost every statistical category. They’ve also struggled in the first half, averaging just 83 yards in the last four games and scoring a total of nine first half points.
With a 4-3 record and plenty of aspirations of making the playoffs, Pittsburgh will implement the move in hopes of providing a spark to Pickett and the offense.
