The Sacramento Kings finaly acquire Colby Jones from Boston in return for 38th pick

The Sacramento Kings have made another NBA Draft trade, this time with the Boston Celtics, to get Xavier guard Colby Jones.

In exchange for Jones, the Celtics received the 38th overall pick in the draft as well as a future second-round pick in the future.

Jones, a 6’5 wing who can play two and three, was a threat from three-point range during the 2022-23 season, hitting 38 percent while pulling down 5.7 rebounds per game.

After swinging a trade that sent Richaun Holmes and the 24th overall pick to the Dallas Mavericks, the Kings used its 38th pick to make the jump to 34th and bring in Jones, a prospect that many mock drafts had in the 20-30 range.

Jones is the type of player Sacramento was looking for in this wing-heavy draft, a guard-forward hybrid who can use his 6’8 wingspan to defend the one-through-three positions while still being a threat from three-point range.

The 21-year-old led the Big East in points per game, three-point field goal percentage, and steals per game.

15 points, 4.4 assists, 5.7 rebounds, 1.3 steals, 50.9% FG, 37.8% 3PT, 65.3% FT in 2022-23.

Jones’ unselfish, adaptable style of play makes him an easy fit in most rotations and may make him an immediate value boost for clubs off the bench. He’s being considered by teams all over the first round’s back end.

While his isolation offense and free throws need to improve, as a rookie, the junior combo wing might see significant rotation minutes.
