Sambi Lokonga | “I have never seen support like this in my life”

Luton Town midfielder Sambi Lokonga discussed the support from the Hatters fans after the Premier League defeat to West Ham United at London Stadium.

The Arsenal loanee opened the scoring inside six minutes on Saturday, which was his first goal in English football and his first since scoring for Anderlecht against Tahith Chong’s Club Brugge in April 2021.

Sambi was left speechless as he dissected the game immediately after full-time. “I don’t know what to say to be fair,” explained the Belgian international. “It’s a hard, tough day because it gives us a mountain to climb to stay up.

“I have never seen support like this from the fans in my life. Whether we lose, draw or win, they have always shown their support and been behind us.

“I have to thank the fans for that, we are really grateful because I have never seen anything like this in my life.

“Thank you to all the fans for their support on this journey, thank you to the staff, the players and everyone, I am so grateful.

“It has been a difficult season, nobody believed in us from day one and we’ve took the challenge until the final week. We can be proud of that because everyone put in a good shift.

“We want to finish on a high against Fulham, especially as we are at home in-front of our fans. We want to give the fans something to cheer about so they can be happy and enjoy the last game of the season.”

Sambi also took to Instagram to thank the fans for sticking by us this season: “I have never seen this kind of support in my life, through thick and thin. Every player dreams of that! I am just grateful to you all for that, see you on Sunday for the last fight.”
