Danilo Gallinari appears to have unfinished business with the Boston Celtics. Gallinari expressed his excitement to face his old team when speaking with his brother Federico on the July 31 broadcast of “A Cresta Alta” after the Celtics traded him to the Washington Wizards, who plan to keep him for the time being.
“I’m bursting with energy. I’m excited to play against Boston. “As soon as the schedule is released, I’ll put an X on every time I play against Boston in Boston,” Gallinari remarked in English.

Gallinari signed with the Celtics during the 2022 NBA offseason, although he never played for the team after re-torturing his ACL during the FIBA EuroBasket Tournament. Gallinari would never have the opportunity to play for the Celtics after being included in the three-way trade that resulted in the Celtics acquiring Kristaps Porzingis.
Gallinari has had noteworthy games against the Celtics, including a game against the Celtics on February 21, 2021, when he was with the Atlanta Hawks.
Danilo Gallinari Said Celtics Trade Was ‘Unexpected’
Gallinari gave his first thoughts on the trade while talking with Garrett Cote of MassLive on July 6. Gallinari talked about how shocking the trade was when he first heard about it.
“I had a meeting with the team probably three, four days before the trade, and the meeting was a little different – the reason why I didn’t expect the trade,” Gallinari told Cote. “I’ve been through it before many times. It’s just the craziness about the NBA sometimes. It was pretty quick and unexpected.”
Gallinari added how hard it was to sit on the sidelines knowing the expectations he had when he joined the Celtics in 2022.
“You have the chance to sign for a team like the Celtics that are fighting for a championship, and it’s the first or second time in my career where I have the chance to be on a team that is fighting for a championship. But then the injury came. It was tough.”
Blake Griffin-Celtics Reunion May Be Unlikely: Insider
On July 22, MassLive’s Brian Robb stated that the paucity of information on Blake Griffin’s return to Boston could suggest that the team does not intend to bring him back.
“The Blake Griffin front has been eerily quiet since the season ended.” “Brad Stevens made no mention of him in any of his press conferences, which could be an indication that the team is moving on,” Robb wrote.
Robb went on to explain why the Celtics haven’t taken advantage of the opportunity to get Griffin back just yet.
“For the time being, the Celtics may prefer the roster flexibility of knowing Griffin is available as a backup plan for another true big.” The team is unlikely to commit guaranteed money to him until all other options have been exhausted.”
