Could Liverpool hire their new top-choice manager target soon? Will Arsenal sign two of the most coveted young players on the transfer market? And is Manchester United about to sign a key player from Champions League race competitors Aston Villa?
Here are the latest transfer rumors from around the Premier League.
Liverpool hope to agree to Ruben Amorim deal next week
After former midfielder Xabi Alonso snubbed them in favor of staying at Bayer Leverkusen, with Real Madrid likely on the horizon instead, Liverpool have had to find a new top choice to replace Jürgen Klopp as their manager this summer.
Enter Ruben Amorim, one of the most prized up-and-coming managers in world football, who was on the radar of Tottenham this past summer before Spurs ultimately went with Ange Postecoglou (and have zero regrets about doing that).
Amorim is a hot name on the open market, but both Brighton and Barcelona have cooled their interest since Alonso’s choice to stay in Germany, perhaps because that led Liverpool to ramp up their own interest in the Portuguese manager.
According to a report from Portuguese transfer expert Pedro Sepúlveda, Liverpool and Rúben Amorim are set to increase the speed of contract negotiations following Sporting CP’s massive 2-1 win over rivals Benfica in Liga NOS.
The Reds reportedly hope to close a full agreement with Amorim by next week, which means all they would have to do is pay Sporting the 15-20 million euro release clause in order to secure their Klopp replacement.
Arsenal leading battle for Sporting CP gems Ousmane Diomande and Viktor Gyokeres
Sporting CP are making waves in the Premier League transfer rumor mill for more than just their manager, though, as they have several young gems whom Amorim has expertly developed into hot commodities for elite English clubs.
Title contenders Arsenal would like to sign Viktor Gyokeres as their new goal-scoring striker to pair with veteran all-rounder Gabriel Jesus, while they are also interested in a top young center back to learn behind William Saliba and Ousmane Diomande.
Pedro Sepúlveda also reports that the Gunners are the leaders in the transfer battles for both Gyokeres and Diomande, though the will have to pay a pretty penny to Sporting, who will ask for a premium price for both.
Gyokeres could cost close to 100 million euros, while Diomande will be pushed by teams with big budgets like Chelsea and PSG in the coming summer window.
Arsenal have proven, however, that they can win any transfer battle, as they secured the signing of Declan Rice from West Ham over Manchester United last season. The key is, do Arsenal feel like spending big on these two Sporting talents is worth it?
Manchester United want Aston Villa’s Ezri Konsa
Aston Villa have so many talented young players in an Unai Emery-coached squad that is pushing HARD for a Champions League berth in 2024/25.
Ezri Konsa is one of the better defenders in the English Premiership, and Football Transfers report that he has piqued the interest of Manchester United for a potential summer transfer.
The 26-year-old English center back has been a wall for Aston Villa this season and one of the most important players in the team, capable of marking top strikers out of the game.
Manchester United are looking at a number of center back options this summer to replace the likes of Raphaël Varane and Harry Maguire, as their back line is aging and simply not good enough. Only Lisandro Martínez appears to have a long-term future with the club.
Konsa could check off the boxes of the kind of relatively young and incredibly athletic defender they want, but Aston Villa will surely ask for everything from Manchester United financially to make this deal happen.
