Player movement has been rampant in collegiate football since the completion of conference championship weekend. Players are making announcements about whether they will join the transfer portal, return for another season, or declare for the NFL draft. Both Georgia and Florida State have begun to feel the affects of not being claimed for the last four teams in the college football playoff, with the Seminoles being the most recent domino to fall. Johnny Wilson, the starting wide receiver, has officially declared for the NFL draft and will not play in the Orange Bowl. Wilson was one of two Seminoles wide receivers who had a significant influence on the team this season. Wilson concluded the season with 41 receptions, 617 yards, and two touchdowns.

The Florida State Seminoles defeated the Miami Hurricanes 27-20 on Saturday, Nov. 11, 2023. It is to be expected that Wilson will not be the only player from either side to opt out of the bowl game. It has become a common decision for high-profile players who will not be playing in the college football playoff at the end of the month. The Orange Bowl is set to be played on Dec. 30th at 4 PM on ESPN. It will be the 11th matchup between these two programs and the first ever since 2002 when they faced off in the Sugar Bowl as the Bulldogs went on to win that game by a final score of 26-13.
