Here’s how we predict Wolverhampton Wanderers to line up against Ipswich Town in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday.
Wolverhampton Wanderers head out on the road on Tuesday evening to face EFL Championship surprise package Ipswich Town in the Carabao Cup Third Round.
One of the most in-form teams in the nation, Ipswich have won seven of their first eight matches since returning to the English second tier and are currently in second spot.
The Old Gold, on the other hand, are without a win since the 5-0 thrashing of Blackpool in the previous round of the Carabao Cup and confidence is rather low.
Wolves will likely rotate heavily as the Premier League is the priority but Gary O’Neil probably won’t start too many youngsters to show respect to the Tractor Boys.
With that in mind, here are the 11 players we think will start at Portman Road Stadium, as well as brief explanations for each inclusion.
1. GK – Daniel Bentley
Good opportunity for the backup goalkeeper to get some game time
2. RB – Matt Doherty
Scored twice in Wolves’ last cup outing and should start this one.
4. CB – Max Kilman
Likely to start every game for Wanderers this season, even in the cups
5. LB – Hugo Bueno
Rotates in for Ait-Nouri. Could give O’Neil something to think about if he plays well.
6. CM – Mario Lemina
Offers balance in midfield and defence, especially given the number of changes.
7. CM – Tommy Doyle
Could make his first start after being loaned with a £5m option-to-buy from Man City.
8. CAM – Fabio Silva
Has played just in behind the striker before. Could work well with the striker choice.
9. RW – Pablo Sarabia
Things haven’t worked out so far but this is a chance to build some confidence.
10. LW – Hwang Hee-chan
Only played 45 minutes on the weekend so should be fine to play once again
11. ST – Sasa Kalajdzic
Scored in the previous round against Blackpool and should get some minutes.
