Wrexham ace will be itching to prove himself but Rob McElhenney favourite is keeping him out

Wrexham and Birmingham City are two of the League One promotion favourites this season.

When the Welsh side first won promotion to the third tier, they were not expected to be challenging for the title.

However, with just over six weeks of 2024/25 now played, Phil Parkinson and his players are firmly in the promotion picture.

Wrexham do have a game in hand on several sides right now, but the Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds-owned club are still going into the latest round of fixtures sat top of League One.

Their biggest rivals right now for a variety of different reasons are Birmingham City, who beat the Red Dragons 3-1 last Monday to hand them their first defeat of the season.

Despite losing for the first time, Parkinson has, for the most part, stuck with the same eleven for every league fixture this term, which is bad news for one Wrexham summer signing.

Wrexham summer signing is struggling for minutes

Wrexham made nine signings during the 2024 summer transfer window, several of which are already regular starters at the Racecourse Ground.

George Dobson has been a revelation at Wrexham following his free transfer from Charlton Athletic.

However, on summer addition is still yet to see any real action since moving to Wales over the summer.

Sebastian Revan left Aston Villa to link up with the newly promoted outfit but is still yet to feature in any meaningful fashion.

Parkinson called Revan ‘special’ after the full-back made an appearance in the EFL Trophy versus Salford City earlier this month.

But the 21-year-old has made just one league start this season, being kept out of the team by Ryan Barnett.

Ryan Barnett is keeping Seb Revan out of Wrexham team

Revan is a versatile full-back capable of playing on either side of the backline.

But with James McClean the club captain, the only real place for him in the team will come at right-wing-back.

The Englishman performed well in his one league start in that role when Wrexham drew 0-0 with Bolton Wanderers.

With just one start to his name, Revan will be itching to prove himself but a Rob McElhenney favourite is keeping him out of the team.

Barnett has played six league games this campaign and provided a very impressive two assists.

And after the 3-0 win over Reading last month, McElhnney expressed his love for Barnett in a Tweet reacting to the player’s assist.

It is unfortunate for Revan who is clearly a top-quality player but right now, it is hard to see how he gets into the eleven with Barnett playing some of the best football of his career.
