The excitement of the Washington Commanders season is upon us, and while the new life injected into the team gives cause for hope, one analyst believes the team will once again have a top 5 pick next year.
The Washington Commanders have done a great job this offseason at combining impact rookies such as Jayden Daniels into the mix with free-agent veterans like Dorance Armstrong, Bobby Wagner and Frankie Luvu.
Excitement around the team is higher than it’s been in a decade, however, Lou Scataglia from the NFL Spin Zone thinks that even with those additions, the Commanders will still be picking in the top five next season at pick No. 4.
“I personally did not agree with the Washington Commanders selecting Jayden Daniels over Drake Maye, but here we are,” Scataglia said. “The Commanders roster still needs a good bit of work, and they seemed to hire a good-not-great coach in Dan Quinn, so this could be another rougher year for the Commanders, who probably are not eyeing being super competitive in 2024.
“Them picking fourth overall would not be the worst thing ever, as they could get a blue-chip tackle prospect, which is a position they totally botched this offseason.”
Having a top five pick next season means that the Commanders would finish 6-11 or worse. That takes all of the positivity out of the air for Commanders fans who believe that this team could potentially shock the rest of the NFC and have a winning record for the first time since 2015.
Since the turn of the century, the Commanders have only won the division three times. In that same span, they’ve only had three winning seasons.
Quinn and his Commanders look to turn that around starting with training camp which begins on July 24 in Ashburn, VA.
