David Moyes happy as West Ham finally identify £21m perfect Declan Rice replacement

West Ham will be very busy this summer, with a flurry of arrivals and departures expected following an exciting campaign for the East London club.

Declan Rice, the club captain and star midfielder, will, of course, dominate the headlines in the coming weeks when the transfer market opens.

However, his impending departure means that the Hammers will be looking for a competent replacement, one capable of developing into the post in the coming years.

Take a step forward Valencia star Yunus Musah is interested in a move to East London, according to the Daily Mirror (page 65, 16 June).

According to the publication, David Moyes has long loved the midfielder, who is valued at £21 million, and Valencia is eager to have a deal in place by the end of this month.

The Hammers must act carefully but quickly to fill the void left by Rice, and it appears that the stars have aligned amid this Musah update.

It won’t be in the forefront of their minds, but the West Ham hierarchy may be considering the Valencia star’s long-term future, in that he may be sold for a large fee at some point in the future if he hits the ground running at the London Stadium.

Musah is also a full-fledged international, having already earned 25 caps for the United States despite turning 20 in November.

His most recent appearance came in a 3-0 CONCACAF Nations League victory over Mexico on Thursday (15 June), with MLS Soccer awarding the midfielder a match rating of 8.0, noting: “If not for the heroics of Christian Pulisic, Musah had a case for the man of the match, doing all the dirty work in midfield and in ball progression that makes him so valuable to this group.”

His leading role for the country came after several years of representing England in his childhood before deciding to line up for his birth country on the senior level.

It was not an easy decision, but it demonstrates that despite his youth, the child can make significant decisions and is not afraid to anger others, a trait that will help him develop swiftly at West Ham.

Musah, an international midfield partner of Leeds United’s Tyler Adams and their previous loanee Weston McKennie, will no doubt be speaking with the duo about what it’s like to play in the Premier League.
