The newly relegated SkyBet League One side have added the 24-year-old to their squad following an impressive three year stint at the LNER Stadium.

Who is Lasse Sorensen?

The Dane used to operate in the centre of midfield, but has become an exciting and transformative right-wing-back over recent seasons.

The current Swindon Town boss Mark Kennedy was the first to move him out wide, during his spell in change of the Imps, in a switch that has continued under the reign of former Leeds United under-21s boss Michael Skubala.

He joined Lincoln City in the summer of 2021 after rising through the ranks at Stoke City and making it into the first team. The Dane managed a solitary Premier League appearance during his time at the Potters, while he made seven in the Championship.

During his spell at the Imps, he has made 115 League One appearances, among a total of 136 for the club. He was the top appearance maker for Lincoln last season, playing 51 games across the campaign.

He scored ten goals for the club, including a memorable strike from inside his own half in the 2022/23 campaign.

Leaving Lincoln City:

Sorensen was also a key part of City’s community activities, and was named the Lincoln City PFA Community Champion in both the past two seasons.

Speaking to Lincoln City’s club website about the right-wing back’s move to Huddersfield Town, director of football Jez George said: “While we’re sad to see Lasse leave, he does so with our respect and affection for how he has represented our club with such distinction on and off the pitch.

“As we were unable to extend Lasse’s contract last season, despite all of our best efforts, we knew that if we didn’t sell him this summer he would leave on a free transfer at the end of the season.

“While we would obviously have preferred for Lasse to move to a club in the Championship, that option didn’t exist. Huddersfield were professional throughout our negotiations and met our valuation after we turned down two offers, so we concluded that it was in the best interest of Lincoln City to agree a deal.”

A Big Signing for Huddersfield Town – Opinion:

The signing of Lasse Sorensen, someone who earlier on this summer had a one-year extension triggered by Lincoln City, is a huge coup for Huddersfield Town.

It was my expectation that he would either stay in Lincolnshire for another season or move to a Championship club during this window.

But, the Terriers have secured themselves a quality player. Sorensen is a top-tier League One player, and easily someone who could make the step up into the second tier.

After the early business of Steve Evans and Rotherham United during this off-season, Huddersfield Town have now made their intentions very clear ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.
