West Ham displaying concrete interest in race to sign £12.8m electrifying striker

Castellanos has been a standout in the MLS for several seasons and spent the 2022/23 season on loan at Girona in La Liga, where he scored 14 goals in 37 games across all competitions.

However, they are unable to sign him on a permanent basis, and he is determined to leave New York for Europe, with West Ham and Sevilla expressing the most interest in a move for the 24-year-old.

“Taty Castellanos will not continue at Girona because the club is unable to purchase him,” he stated on his personal Twitter account on June 9th.

“West Ham and Sevilla have already expressed serious interest.”

“New York City is willing to sell and wants a flat [fee] of €15m (£12.8m) to get rid of [him].”

Striker

West Ham clearly wants another striker this summer, which implies that someone will leave.

Gianluca Scamacca was signed as the club’s first-choice goalkeeper last summer, but he struggled with injuries and adjusting, and he’s been linked with a return to Italy on a frequent basis.

Michail Antonio was on the verge of departing in January but gained his spot back and was instrumental in the squad avoiding relegation and winning the Europa Conference League, whereas Danny Ings joined in January but struggled to make an impact.

If Castellanos is to arrive it could be a shrewd signing for a relatively low fee, but it would mean the end of the road for one ace already at the club.

The most likely candidate is Antonio, who has only one year left on his contract and is the oldest, but he has also been the finest performer. There are many unanswered questions, but West Ham are ready to proceed.
