West Ham United manager David Moyes is planning a summer bid to recruit Fulham’s Joao Palhinha.
According to Jacob Steinberg of the Guardian, the West Ham board is likely to keep faith in David Moyes and financially back him up with a drive to recruit Joao Palhinha, among others, in the summer transfer window.
According to a recent rumor, West Ham are willing to spend £40 million for the 27-year-old, although Fulham would demand closer to £50 million.
Moyes needs to bolster his defensive midfield ranks at the London Stadium this summer, with Declan Rice poised to go.
And Palhinha is undoubtedly one of the names on the Scot’s radar…
West Ham’s board of directors has backed Moyes with £50 million in funding, according to Jacob Steinberg. Palhinha, Joao
According to Steinberg, the Scot will have the full backing of the Hammers board this summer, and one of his first stops will be to entice the Portugal international away from Craven Cottage.
Palhinha is a world-class talent who would be a fantastic addition for the Hammers if we can close the deal.
However, £50 million is just too much money for us to invest on the Portuguese midfielder. I would not go any higher than £30-40 million.
Since joining Fulham in the Premier League, the 27-year-old has scored three goals and averages 4.2 tackles, 1.3 interceptions, and 1.7 clearances per game. He averages 36.3 passes per match and has a completion rate of 83.1% (Who Scored).
Joao Palhinha is a terrific defensive midfielder who would be an excellent addition to West Ham’s squad. He has already demonstrated that he possesses all of the qualities required to flourish in the Premier League.
As previously stated, the Hammers should not be spending £50 million for the Fulham man, especially given that he will be 28 next month.
Moyes must be prudent in his summer recruitment, and spending so much money on Palhinha is not the way to go. However, if we can get him for, say, £35 million, I believe it will be a worthwhile deal to pursue.
