According to journalist Alan Nixon, West Ham United are ready to offer a hefty contract to lure Everton midfielder Amadou Onana to the London Stadium.
The Toffees star joined the Premier League from Lille last summer and has four years left on his contract, but after establishing himself as Sean Dyche’s third top-performing defensive player last season, he is the “most likely” to leave Merseyside this summer, according to tp reporter Paul Brown.
Back in July 2022, French site RMC Sport claimed that the Irons were in discussions to recruit the 21-year-old before he was targeted by the Toffees, only for Fabrizio Romano to derail the deal by disclosing that Onana preferred to play for the Blues at Goodison Park.
David Moyes, on the other hand, does not appear to be deterred and appears to be ready to take another bite at the cherry.
According to Nixon’s Patreon report (as stated by West Ham Zone), Moyes is once again interested in Onana and is determined to secure his services at the second time of asking. He stated:
“West Ham manager David Moyes is ready to make a second attempt to sign Everton midfielder Amadou Onana.” Moyes wants Belgian powerhouse Onana to replace Declan Rice, and the Goodison Park club may be willing to trade for between £40m and £50m.
“When Onana left Lille last summer, the Hammers boss wanted him but lost out to Everton, where he started well but became less of a regular under Sean Dyche in the closing weeks.” Moyes has the finances to pay the fee and a large contract, but he must persuade Onana that this is the right decision.”
West Ham and Moyes must be plotting for Onana to play in front of the defense in order to target him as a potential replacement for Rice, and as a player who isn’t afraid to get stuck in and clear the danger, he may be a terrific backline protector for Moyes.
According to FBRef, the 2022 World Cup participant won 43 tackles last season, the second-highest success rate in his squad, not to mention that he averaged 1.8 aerial wins per top-flight game and is a formidable force with his sheer strength, towering at 6 foot 3.
Everton’s talisman is also capable of contributing to efforts in the final third, having provided two assists and scored one goal himself in the previous campaign, and with his all-round game having seen him dubbed a “one-man army” by talent scout Jacek Kulig, this is a no-brainer of a deal to complete should the opportunity present itself.
