West Ham United finally beat Newcastle Utd, Man Utd to sign £30m midfield star

According to The Telegraph, West Ham United have launched a serious bid for Leicester City winger Harvey Barnes, making him their first signing of the summer.

The Hammers are likely to start bidding for the England international at £30 million, which is significantly less than the Foxes’ £40 million value of the attacker.

Despite Leicester’s relegation from the Premier League, Barnes, 25, had a fantastic season, scoring 13 goals and finishing as the club’s leading goalscorer.

“Aston Villa, Tottenham Hotspur, and Newcastle United are all interested in Barnes,” the Telegraph noted, “but West Ham have made the most serious move so far and are expected to open negotiations with Leicester now that their season is over.”

Excellent choice

West Ham fans should be drooling over the idea of Jarrod Bowen on one flank and Barnes on the other.

Despite the fact that the Foxes had a difficult season that ended in relegation, the attacker was in top form in front of goal.

The 25-year-old scored 13 goals and provided one assist in 34 Premier League outings, indicating that he will not be playing Championship football next season.

Barnes would have cost the Hammers far more if Leicester had remained in the Premier League for the following season, so the £30 million isn’t the worst price ever.

With both Manuel Lanzini and Pablo Fornals battling for consistency last season, Moyes will need more options in attack to handle with both domestic and European responsibilities next season.

Barnes checks all the boxes, and the club should go all out to get him.
