West Ham United are preparing an initial bid for Fulham midfielder Joao Palhinha, who may replace Declan Rice.
West Ham United manager Fabrizio Romano insists the club is ready to make a formal approach to Fulham for Joao Palhinha. The Hammers are looking for a high-profile successor for Declan Rice, who is set to depart the club. They have names like Edson Alvarez on the list, among others.
West Ham United does not want to lose time in finding a suitable successor for Declan Rice. After returning from international duty, the England international is set to leave the club. Arsenal are currently the favorites to sign the 24-year-old.
The Gunners are advancing in negotiations and are reportedly poised to make a £100 million bid to tempt the Hammers. The London side are keen to bring in a top-quality replacement early, with Joao Palhinha their priority target.
The Fulham midfielder has been a revelation since moving from Sporting CP last season. His performances had already caught the attention of some of the top clubs, including Liverpool. Yet, none have made any concrete approaches so far.

West Ham are now set to hold talks with Fulham to discuss the terms of signing Joao Palhinha. They’ve been keeping an eye on Rice since the beginning of the month, but they’re waiting to see how much he’ll fetch.
With the Hammers expected to get a sizable compensation for Rice, it’s logical to assume they’ll be able to make a major statement.Fulham are reportedly asking £50-60 million for the 27-year-old Premier League star, but the Hammers would like a smaller amount in exchange.
In retrospect, Fulham may regard the Hammers as a direct opponent in the league. They will want to get the greatest price possible before selling a key player.West Ham are also interested in Edson Alvarez, although the Mexican appears to be heading to Borussia Dortmund.
The Hammers consider Palhinha as a player with extensive Premier League experience. He may easily fit into their first-team plans. Despite the expensive sum, buying the 27-year-old to improve their midfield in this window makes sense.
