The scary part: Journalist blown away by ‘exciting’ Wrexham talent who’ll go to the ‘very, very top’

Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds told Wrexham have an ‘exciting’ talent who will go to the ‘very top’

Wrexham’s squad is littered with talented players but there is one individual who has been told he can to the ‘very top’ after his performance against Bolton Wanderers.

Wrexham secured an impressive goalless draw at Bolton on Sunday, as the Reds defended admirably to earn a point.

Phil Parkinson was left blown away by the performance of Sebastian Revan at right wing-back, who was solid in defence and ‘dangerous’ in attack.

Revan arrived on a permanent deal from Aston Villa this summer and the 21-year-old has translated his pre-season form into competitive action, and he isn’t the only one.

Wrexham star Arthur Okonkwo has the ‘potential’ to go to the ‘very top’

Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds pulled off a masterstroke when they signed goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo on a permanent deal this summer.

Following an impressive loan campaign at the Racecourse Ground, several Championship clubs wanted him however, it was Wrexham who thankfully won the race for his signature.

The 22-year-old is an incredibly talented goalkeeper, who earned a place in the League Two Team of the Year last term, as his excellent displays were recognised.

Okonkwo has since started this campaign in a similarly rich vein of form, with Sky Sports pundit Sam Parkin calling him the best player on the pitch against Bolton.

That is a sentiment shared by journalist Nathan Salt, who believes the former Arsenal youngster can go to ‘the very top’ while lauding his potential as ‘scary’.

Speaking on the Rob Ryan Red podcast, Salt said: “Okonkwo, fabulous, you could see why Parkinson went all out and pushed to get him. I’ve said it before, we’ve got the best goalkeeper in League One by far.”

“I think he’s just so, so good. And the scary part for everybody else is that it doesn’t feel like he’s yet maximized his full potential. We mentioned about his kicking, his distribution, can and will improve.

“His shot stopping, there’s a desire for him to be more commanding in his box. And I know that he will believe that he can take his game to even greater heights. And he’s got huge ambition to reach the very, very top.

“So super exciting. The exact type of player that myself and Rich were looking for was a year ago. Now we were saying, go and get that player that you can build with and go up the ladder.”

Okonkwo could pocket Wrexham serious cash in the future

Wrexham supporters will be hoping that Okonkwo remains at the club for years to come but if he continues producing stunning displays – like the one against Bolton – it’s only a matter of time before a bigger club comes calling.

Of course, there are areas of his game that can improve, with James McClean critical of Okonkwo’s kicking, but he’s still so young for a goalkeeper.

He has a lot to learn in the game however, there is no doubt that the Wrexham youngster has the skillset to become at least a Championship standard keeper.

Indeed, if Okonkwo’s potential can continue to skyrocket, so will his value, meaning McElhenney and Reynolds could pocket a healthy sum in the future, should they sell him.
