Birmingham City v Wrexham prediction issued by former Aston Villa defender

A boyhood Aston Villa fan will want to get one over inter-city rivals Birmingham City with his new club.

Wrexham’s former Aston Villa defender Lewis Brunt is anticipating a ‘great game’ ahead of their Sky Bet League One clash with Birmingham City.

The 23-year-old returns to the West Midlands after leaving Villa on a free transfer in the summer of 2021. He was a boyhood Villa fan, and came through their academy, but didn’t make an appearance for the first-team.

Since departing Villa in 2021, he signed for Leicester City, and had a loan spell at Mansfield Town before joining the Dragons for an undisclosed fee. He has so far made two appearances for Wrexham, but has yet to make his league debut. An appearance next Monday at St Andrew’s is something he would desire, given his allegiance to the Claret and Blue side of Birmingham.

St. Andrew’s @ Knighthead Park is sold out, with more than 2,200 supporters arriving from Wrexham. The match is being shown live on Sky Sports, and Brunt believes that the match will be an interesting spectacle.

“Yeah, especially being a Villa fan!” responded Brunt to Wrexham’s media staff in a video posted on their official YouTube channel when asked about his thoughts for their next fixture.

“I’m from the local area so I’m sure that will be a great game.

“Yeah, definitely. Like I said, it’s going to be a great atmosphere and a great game.”

Wrexham unlike Birmingham were in league action at the weekend and defeated local rivals Shrewsbury Town 3-0 at the Racecourse Ground on Saturday. Ollie Palmer, Elliot Lee, and Jack Marriott were all on target within the hour, and that put them top of the standings.

Birmingham’s last game came against Walsall on Tuesday, September 3, with several first-team players featuring in a 1-1 draw in the EFL Trophy. Wrexham played Salford City on Tuesday (September 10), beating them 2-1 in the EFL Trophy thanks to a goal from Paul Mullin and a Josh Austerfield own goal.
