DONE DEAL: Wrexham Closing In On Swoop For Championship Forward

Wrexham are set to continue their preparations for this weekend’s season opener as they close in on another summer signing.

The Welsh side have had a strong pre-season so far, putting up strong performances against the likes of Bournemouth and Chelsea as they prepare for their upcoming League One campaign.Despite adding the likes of George Dobson and Lewis Brunt to their side, Phil Parkinson’s men don’t appear to be settled on their summer business currently.

McAtee to the Red Dragons

According to journalist Pete O’Rourke, Wrexham are closing in on the signing of Luton Town forward John McAtee, ahead of Saturday’s season opener against Wycombe Wanderers.

There is no formal confirmation as to whether this is a loan or permanent switch, but McAtee looks set to return to League One following his spell with Barnsley last season.

How did he fare last season?

The 25-year-old made 45 appearances in all competitions for League One side Barnsley last season as well as being an unused substitute for Luton Town during their Premier League opening day fixture against Brighton.

During those matches, McAtee scored 15 goals and provided five additional assists which helped the club to reach the League One play-offs where they were defeated by runners-up Bolton Wanderers.

Is this a good move for Wrexham?

Wrexham already boast several attacking outlets such as Paul Mullin, Seb Revan, Ollie Palmer and Jack Marriott and McAtee will add a lot of League One experience to that side.

It remains to be seen whether it’s a loan or a permanent contract at Wrexham, but either way, this signing is likely to be one that leaves fans extremely excited.
