‘Very good’ forward & more: 5 best players Wrexham missed out on in 2024 summer

Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds should be happy with their summer business but some big names slipped through the net at Wrexham.

It has been a productive summer for Wrexham, who are now playing in League One for the first time in their history.

The club have spent big money and smashed their transfer record twice to ensure Phil Parkinson has a good enough squad to compete in the third tier of English football.

Wrexham paid £500,000 for Ollie Rathbone earlier in August to break their record for the first time.

But Wrexham confirmed the signing of West Bromwich Albion striker Modou Faal on deadline day for a new club-record fee of £590,000.

However, the Red Dragons still missed out on some big names this summer and TWI have now picked out the five biggest.

Five best players Wrexham missed out on this summer

Will Lanksheaer

Earlier in the transfer window, Wrexham were linked with Will Lanksheaer of Tottenham Hotspur.

The 19-year-old shone at U21 level for Spurs last season and has earned high praise from Ange Postecoglou, who dubbed him ‘very good’, as per football.london.

Unfortunately for Wrexham, after he shone in pre-season for the north Londoners, Tottenham decided to keep Lanksheaer for the 2024/25 season.

Will Keane

Another striker the Red Dragons were unable to get through the door was Will Keane.

Wrexham made a late bid for Keane but it was rejected by Preston North End on August 28th.

The 31-year-old will now remain at Deepdale for at least the next six months despite interest from several clubs over the summer.

Bailey Cadamarteri

If there is one player Wrexham fans likely did not expect to miss out on this summer it was Bailey Cadamarteri.

The Sheffield Wednesday attacker was heavily linked with the club and at one point, Wrexham were front-runners in the race for Cadamarteri.

However, in what is a huge blow to Parkinson and co., the 19-year-old agreed to instead join Wrexham’s League One rivals Lincoln City on loan for 2024/25.

Tom Bradshaw

While less heavily linked over the summer, Tom Bradshaw was a name tipped to make a move to the Racecourse Ground.

Wrexham were allegedly keen on the Millwall forward back in July but any hope of a deal being struck faded this week.

Bradshaw suffered a hamstring injury against Leyton Orient on Tuesday night, meaning a late summer exit was off the cards.

Stephen Humphrys

As you may be able to tell at this stage, Wrexham really wanted to sign a new striker in 2024.

At the beginning of this summer, Wrexham were eying up a move for Stephen Humphrys.

However, Humphrys has now joined Barnsley on a free transfer. Wrexham did eventually get a new striker in on Friday in the form of Faal, but Parkinson would no doubt have loved at least one of the five attackers mentioned as well.
