League One boss uses Paul Mullin point to demonstrate Wrexham strength under Phil Parkinson

Wrexham head into the international break off the back of a thumping victory having thrashed Northampton Town 4-1 at the STōK Cae Ras.

Wrexham had a tricky week on the road in the lead-up to facing Northampton Town.

A 0-0 draw at Leyton Orient wasn’t a terrible result but the performance left Orient boss Richie Wellens feeling that Wrexham were let off the hook.

Wrexham then lost 1-0 at Stevenage and attacking concerns began to emerge after no goals from open play in four straight games.

Wrexham hit back on Saturday afternoon though, beating Northampton Town in a comfortable 4-1 win.

James McClean bagged a brace, joining Jack Marriott and Elliot Lee on the scoresheet in a superb Wrexham victory.

Jon Brady on Wrexham substitutions

James McClean felt that Wrexham had real intensity on show against Northampton, something which has maybe been lacking in recent games.

Wrexham will certainly hope that going straight into the international break after that win doesn’t hamper any momentum going forward.

Phil Parkinson certainly has great options at his disposal though and the quality of this squad means Wrexham should pick up more wins than defeats over the course of the campaign.

Northampton boss Jon Brady has already praised the ’top players’ at Parkinson’s disposal following Saturday’s clash.

Brady has now gone one step further by pointing out one moment which hammered home the difference between the two teams.

Wrexham were able to make a double change up front in the second half, substituting Ollie Palmer and goalscorer Marriott in favour of Steven Fletcher and Paul Mullin.

Fletcher and Mullin would be starting for most League One sides and Brady was blown away by the strength of Parkinson’s options.

“They take two off and put two on who are quality players,” said Brady.

“That’s the difference. I keep saying it, the difference on the front lines this year is ‘Just incredible’: League One boss uses Paul Mullin point to demonstrate Wrexham strength under Phil Parkinson.

“The quality of the sides, you’ve seen today, they’ve upped it to a different level. It is a different level,” he added.

Wrexham have even more attacking firepower

We have seen Parkinson rotate his strikers this season.

Marriott has started the season brilliantly whilst Palmer offers the physical presence in the ‘big man little man’ combination.

Mullin has started the season a little slowly after coming back from surgery but Fletcher has fared well in limited minutes.

Wrexham even have a striker who can’t make the matchday squad in Modou Fall.

Wrexham paid around £500,000 to sign Faal from West Bromwich Albion on deadline day, the kind of investment Northampton would love to make.

Faal can’t even get in the squad right now as Wrexham take something of a long-term approach to the striker and his development, summing up the strength of Parkinson’s options.
