Wrexham have made a signing this summer who is nailed on to start after a ‘fantastic’ pre-season.
Phil Parkinson has overhauled his Wrexham squad ahead of League One by selling most of his fringe players and signing quality players at this level.
The main area Wrexham have strengthened is in defence with Lewis Brunt, Dan Scarr and Sebastian Revan all arriving at the Racecourse Ground.
Whilst Brunt and Scarr offer competition centrally, Revan – who joined a permanent deal from Aston Villa – will be used predominantly as a left wing-back.
Last season, Parkinson used James McClean at left-back, who shared minutes with Jacob Mendy, but as the Gambian is currently sidelined and McClean is preferred in midfield, Revan could nail down that position.
Sebastian Revan is nailed on to start for Wrexham
Wrexham have had an impressive pre-season, going unbeaten across their five matches, including draws against Chelsea and Bournemouth on their Wrex Coast Tour.
In an advanced role down the left, Revan has shown his quality, scoring in the 4-1 win over Vancouver Whitecaps and being a real nuisance for the opposition to defend him
Although some of Wrexham’s new signings, namely Brunt, Scarr and Dobson, will have to battle fierce competition to start, Revan’s place in the starting XI against Wycombe Wanderers on Saturday looks assured.
That is according to former Sky Sports journalist Bryn Law, who believes the 21-year-old has been ‘fantastic’ in pre-season and is nailed on to start this weekend.
Speaking on the Sport in Wales YouTube channel, Law said: “Revan has been fantastic by the way, he was really really good against Chelsea. He’s had a great pre-season. So I think he’s pretty much a stick-on to start. He adds an attacking dimension that was maybe needed to add to.”
Revan is an upgrade on Jacob Mendy
Mendy experienced his first taste of League Two football last season and made a solid account of himself, scoring twice and providing five assists.
With the 27-year-old currently out injured and question marks raised over his ability, Revan has already grasped the opportunity to grab the starting jersey and play regularly.
The 2003-born defender did spend last season on loan at Rotherham in the Championship, where he featured 36 times and supplied three goal contributions.
Although it was a dismal campaign for the Millers, who were relegated to League One, Revan was still a bright spark down the left, showcasing his engine and speed to maraud up and down the pitch.
It’s a similar energy that he’s demonstrated in
the opening exchanges of his Wrexham career, with the young defender proving he’s a solid attacking outlet down the left, as well as a competent defender.
Revan will be hoping to make his full debut for Wrexham against Wycombe this weekend and prove why he’s an upgrade on Mendy.
