Paul Mullin delivers 10-word verdict on Wrexham’s derby day win over Shrewsbury Town

Wrexham produced another fine performance on Saturday afternoon, beating rivals Shrewsbury Town 3-0 at the STōK Cae Ras.

Phil Parkinson must be on cloud nine right now.

Wrexham have taken to League One brilliantly and are still unbeaten after five league games of the new season.

Rivals Shrewsbury Town visited the STōK Cae Ras on Saturday and Wrexham certainly claimed bragging rights on derby day.

Ollie Palmer, Elliot Lee and Jack Marriott were all on the scoresheet in a superb victory for Wrexham, securing top spot at this early stage in the season.

Wrexham have now racked up four clean sheets in a row and are proving to all League One clubs that this rise is not a mere publicity stunt; Parkinson and co are all business here.

Paul Mullin reacts to Wrexham win

We are only five games into the new season but Wrexham fans will certainly enjoy sitting top of the League One table.

A third promotion in a row would be an astonishing achievement for Wrexham but it’s too early to really eye up the Championship.

Wrexham will want to live in the present and truly savour each and every victory.

Winning a derby is one such moment to really enjoy and striker Paul Mullin did just that.

Mullin came off the bench to help Wrexham secure that 3-0 win over Shrewsbury as he ramps up his return to action.

The Wrexham goal hero took to social media and has posted just 10 words to encapsulate his feelings after the victory.

‘Splendid day down at the Cae Ras it was rocking’ said Mullin, celebrating the win whilst praising the atmosphere generated by Wrexham fans.

Sky Sports pundit on Paul Mullin

Mullin has now made three substitute appearances in a row as he steps up his comeback from injury.

The striker underwent surgery over the summer and subsequently missed pre-season and the start of the League One campaign.

Mullin has yet to find the net though and saw one chance whistle past the post against Peterborough United last weekend.

There were another couple of chances for Mullin against Shrewsbury but it just wouldn’t quite go into the net.

Mullin lofted one shot just past the post and was clearly unhappy with himself for missing the target.

Pundit Courtney Sweetman-Kirk told Sky Sports (07/09, 5:26pm) that Mullin should have done better with that chance and he appeared ‘frustrated’ after not scoring.

“Paul Mullin, he comes on, he puts himself about. The opportunity, the header, was, I think, quite difficult, but that second opportunity where he breaks the trap and gets in between the defenders and the keeper is onrushing, I certainly think he can do better with that. You can tell from his reaction that he was frustrated,” said Sweetman-Kirk.

The goals will come for Mullin; some rustiness is expected after his absence but once he finds the net once, he will surely go on another scoring run.

Breaking into the side isn’t easy right now though with Palmer and Marriott thriving, so Mullin will just have to stay patient and wait for his chance to shine again.
