Paul Mullin jokes one thing Ollie Palmer did spoiled one Wrexham moment that ‘meant so much’

Paul Mullin has scored some truly sensational goals for Wrexham over the years.

When Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds took charge of Wrexham three years ago, they wasted little time improving the club’s first-team squad.

One of the biggest names to arrive at the Racecourse Ground in the early stages of the Red Dragons’ new era was Paul Mullin.

The striker joined on a free transfer from Cambridge United in July 2021, with Mullin’s three-year Wrexham anniversary taking place over the summer.

After his move to Wales, the forward has become a serious fan favourite with Mullin becoming the first player in Wrexham’s history to win a hat-trick of Player of the Year awards, claiming the accolade in 2022, 2023 and 2024.

The 29-year-old has been instrumental in Wrexham going from the National League to League One in just a few years, scoring a number of crucial goals along the way.

Paul Mullin jokes about his greatest Wrexham goal

All told, Mullin has scored a staggering 101 goals and provided 11 assists in 139 outings for Wrexham during his three-year tenure.

The man who has partnered Mullin up front for much of his Wrexham career to date has been Ollie Palmer.

Palmer moved to the club in January 2022 from AFC Wimbledon and has since formed a great bond with Mullin.

However, when discussing his greatest Wrexham goal, as per Leader Live, the striker joked that he did not like what Palmer did to him after he netted against Stockport County to send the club to Wembley.

He said: “The one against Stockport in the FA Trophy and the one against Boreham Wood on the day we made sure of promotion back to the Football League.

“The Stockport goal meant so much because it meant us getting through to Wembley.

“Playing at Wembley is something every player wants and I’d been there with Tranmere. The whole of my family were there and I didn’t play. So to beat Stockport and score that goal was great.

On Palmer kissing him after the goal to celebrate, Mullin joked: “I didn’t like that bit.”

Ollie Palmer and Paul Mullin Wrexham partnership now under threat

The Red Dragons have had a great start to 2024/25 and are currently joint top of League One.

However, with Mullin injured over the summer, Palmer has had a new striking partner for much of this season so far.

Jack Marriott has impressed for Wrexham this term, finding the net on four occasions in six league matches to cement himself as their top scorer in the division.

Mullin has since returned to the starting line-up in the 2-1 win over Crawley Town but his days playing alongside Palmer week in, week out, may now be over.

Parkinson may now start Mullin and Marriott up front together, while the summer addition of Modou Faal for a club-record £590,000 may also see the iconic Wrexham duo playing together on a less frequent basis going forward.

Wrexham face Leyton Orient this weekend and Parkinson will have a major selection headache when it comes to who he will start as his two centre-forwards.
