Wrexham picked up a hard-earned point away from home on Saturday afternoon, drawing 0-0 at Leyton Orient.
Phil Parkinson saw Wrexham beat Crawley Town last weekend, winning 2-1 in a bounce-back victory after losing at Birmingham City.
Wrexham are strong at the STōK Cae Ras but a trip to Leyton Orient looked like a tricky game this weekend.
Richie Wellens saw his side miss first-half chances to take the lead and felt Orient should have been 3-0 up at the break.
Wrexham finished strongly though and almost won it as a goalmouth scramble saw the ball trickle just past the post.
A 0-0 draw and a point in London is no terrible outcome for Wrexham and a decent point on the road ahead of facing Stevenage in midweek.
Phil Parkinson on Max Cleworth injury
Wrexham will be pleased with a share of the spoils but there was one major blow in the second half.
Defender Max Cleworth went off injured and had to be replaced by Dan Scarr in the dying stages of the game.
Cleworth has developed into a quality defender for Wrexham and still has a ‘big future’ ahead of him in the eyes of Andy Morrell.
Wrexham would certainly miss Cleworth if he misses a significant period of time and boss Parkinson has commented on the situation.
Speaking on Wrexham’s official YouTube channel, Parkinson noted that Cleworth’s injury doesn’t look good.
Parkinson claims that Cleworth has damaged ligaments in his ankle but Wrexham are still waiting on a full assessment.
“Max has damaged his ankle ligaments, the extent of which we don’t know but the assessment as he’s hobbled off… it didn’t look good,” said Parkinson.
“We feel for Maxi and we hope it’s not too long,” he added.
Parkinson praise for Dan Scarr
Cleworth’s injury and potential layoff may mean opportunities for other defenders.
Lewis Brunt is one option as he waits for his chance having snubbed Peterborough United for Wrexham over the summer.
Scarr may be given the nod though having come on for Cleworth in the dying embers of the Orient draw.
Snapped up from Plymouth Argyle over the summer, Scarr has yet to start a single League One game for Wrexham.
Scarr’s opportunity may now be imminent and Parkinson has offered him praise for how he equipped himself late on at Orient.
Parkinson added that Brunt, Will Boyle and George Evans are other options in defence and Wrexham will simply get on with it after Cleworth’s injury.
“Injuries are part and parcel of football and we’ve got a good enough squad to cope with players being out,” said Parkinson.
“We’ve got Dan Scarr, who came on and I thought he was excellent in the short period of time, we’ve got Brunty, we’ve got Boyley, George Evans can play there, so we’ve got plenty of options.
“Maxi’s done brilliant and we hope it’s not too long but injuries happen in football and you’ve got to deal with it,” he added.
Cleworth looks unlikely to feature at Stevenage in midweek and Parkinson will now weigh up whether to start with Scarr.
