Phil Parkinson now knows one crucial thing will stop Wrexham from earning another promotion

The Red Dragons enjoyed a prolific start to the 2024/25 League One campaign under Phil Parkinson.

Birmingham City beat Huddersfield Town 1-0 on Tuesday, seeing them firmly cement themselves as League One leaders.

The Midlands outfit are now five points above Wrexham with a game in hand, with the title already seemingly on its way to St Andrew’s.

Wrexham could still battle it out for second place but it has become clear that the club’s dismal away record may see them fail to win promotion to the Championship in 2024/25.

Wrexham have an excellent home record, shipping just seven goals at the Racecourse Ground in 2024 so far – the fewest of any side in the EFL.

However, away from Wales, Parkinson’s men have really struggled. This season alone has seen them now drop 10 points in just five fixtures, including the Stevenage tie.

And if that form does not improve soon, it is clear any shot at promotion will have faded away come the back end of 2024/25.

Upcoming Wrexham away fixtures

Luckily for the Welsh outfit, they are back on home soil this weekend, taking on Northampton Town on October 5th.

Wrexham’s meeting with Lincoln City has been postponed the following week due to international commitments.

After that though, the Red Dragons have two very tricky away tests on the horizon, first against Rotherham United on October 19th and then against Charlton Athletic on October 26th.

Should they once again struggle to perform in said ties, their chances of a top-two finish may be dead in the water by Christmas.
