Signing a striker is a key area that Wrexham could resolve this summer by landing a perfect partner for Paul Mullin.
Wrexham have done some outstanding business in preparation for League One. Phil Parkinson has mainly focused on improving his defence and midfield with little emphasis placed on attack.
The signings of Arthur Okonkwo and Callum Burton have handed Parkinson some competitive options in goal while Lewis Brunt and Sebastian Revan will challenge for a place in the Reds’ back five.
George Dobson, formerly captain of Charlton Athletic, is an energetic and tough-tackling midfielder, who will push the likes of George Evans and Andy Cannon for a spot in the starting XI.
Although Wrexham are yet to invest in a new striker or attacker in general, links to a current Luton Town forward suggest that could be about to change.
Wrexham target John McAtee would be a great signing
Wrexham’s strikeforce is brimming with options but not many can score goals in League One, which is why Parkinson is looking for a new forward.
The 56-year-old wants a long-term replacement for the ageing duo of Steven Fletcher and Ollie Palmer, with someone to partner Paul Mullin.

This has resulted in links to Luton striker John McAtee, who also commands interest from multiple Championship sides, including Derby County, Portsmouth and Blackburn Rovers.
Indeed, Wrexham will have to use all of their pulling power to land the 24-year-old ahead of clubs in the second tier but if they do, there are several reasons why he could form a brilliant partnership with Mullin.
Standing at 6 foot 1 and dubbed ‘excellent’ by Neill Collins at Barnsley last term, McAtee scored 12 goals in League One while on loan from Luton.
He formed a dynamite partnership with Sam Cosgrove as he flourished playing as a second striker and in a two-man strikeforce at Wrexham, he could become a revelation.
A physically imposing centre-forward, capable of winning aerial duels and linking play efficiently, McAtee is the type of striker Parkinson craves.
Why McAtee is the perfect Paul Mullin partner
Parkinson has built his team around Mullin since arriving at Wrexham, and the Liverpudlian has repaid him with over a century of goals in three seasons.
The requirements to play alongside the 29-year-old include; being a willing runner to open up space, able to hold their own physically and create chances for his teammates.
For Barnsley last term, McAtee often dropped deep and ticked the above attributes by creating seven big chances, registering four assists and making one key pass per game.
Including an 83% pass completion in his half, the Englishman also links play neatly, using his technical attributes to thread through balls or play simple passes.
Wrexham currently lack that sort of presence alongside Mullin, so completing a deal for McAtee – ahead of several Championship sides – would signal a statement of intent.
