Watford have seen some of their big assets move on in recent windows and Giordi Chakvetadze could be the latest.
Watford sold Ismael Kone and Yaser Asprilla in the summer, with Marseille and Girona swooping.
The Hornets are no strangers to seeing their top players snapped up by sides at a higher level and it seems as though Georgian standout Chakvetadze could be one of the latest to make such a move.
Reports have claimed that Premier League clubs including Wolves are taking an interest in the attacking midfielder. The Vicarage Road outfit won’t let him go on the cheap though, with an asking price of between £15m and £20m reportedly set.
Watford will need a replacement if someone does swoop for Chakvetadze, and they’ll need to be an eye-catching addition to fill his boots. Here, we pick out three players the Hornets should keep in mind…
Pavel Sulc – Viktoria Plzen
23-year-old Czechia ace Sulc might not come cheap but he could be a great player for Watford to pursue if they are to lose Chakvetadze in the future.
Since coming through the Viktoria Plzen academy, the midfielder’s stock has grown and grown and sits at an all-time high. Six goals and four assists in 19 games across all competitions this season takes him to 32 goals and 17 assists in 128 games for the club.
Sulc is under contract until 2026 and as an eight-time Czechia international, he won’t come cheap. However, he still has plenty of developing to do and after some big sales, Watford deserve to see that reinvested.
Ilias Chair – QPR
If the Hornets would rather go for a domestically-based option, Ilias Chair is one to size up.
The 26-year-old has a 12-month extension option in his contract but with his current deal expiring in the summer, he could be snapped up on a shrewd deal. He’s comfortable out on the left or centrally as an attacking midfielder and has starred in the Championship before.
If he could get back to his best with a fresh start away from QPR, Watford would have a real player on their hands in Morocco international Chair.
Michael Cuisance – Hertha Berlin
Perhaps an ambitious suggestion considering he only moved in the summer, but perhaps if Chakvetadze wasn’t to depart Watford until after the end of this season, former Bayern Munich prospect Cuisance could come into consideration.
After emerging at Borussia Monchengladbach, the Frenchman struggled to hit the heights expected of him with Bayern but following spells across Europe, he’s flying in a new advanced role in 2. Bundesliga.
Cuisance has four goals and four assists in nine games and at 25, he still has time to come good on his exciting potential.
