Wrexham players have returned to pre-season training ahead of the club’s first League One campaign in 19 years.

The preparation for the coming season is now underway with Phil Parkinson’s squad set to jet off to the United States next month for their pre-season tour.

Owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney will be looking to strengthen the squad ahead of the coming campaign, but in the meantime, the current squad are being put through their paces on their return.

The former Sunderland manager likes his side to play with aggression, energy and intensity. Which are three key elements that will be emphasised in pre-season.

The dressing room at the Racecourse has a lot of experience with many players in the twilight years of their careers.

However, their professionalism and dedication to maintaining fitness is clear.

McClean brings huge experience to the dressing room with a plethora of Premier League games under his belt. The Irish winger also has vast experience in the EFL with spells at Wigan Athletic, West Bromwich Albion and Stoke City.

The veteran has only recently retired from international football with 103 caps for the Republic of Ireland.

Despite his age, the 35-year-old became a key part of Parkinson’s side with 37 appearances for the Red Dragons last season.

The club’s Instagram page has released footage showing his incredible fitness ahead of the season, with McClean beating his teammates in a bleep test.

James McClean has a key part to play at Wrexham next season

Players and fans alike are excited for the new season after the full League One 2024/25 fixture list was released earlier this week.

The former Ireland international will be looking forward to returning to League One and will play a vital role for Parkinson in the coming season.

Departures of Ben Tozer and former captain Luke Young this summer, have left the dressing room needing more leaders to step up. McClean often a fiery character, has a wealth of experience and is very vocal on the pitch. At 35, he is part of the more senior members of the squad and should help mentor the younger players at the club.
