Wrexham fans told why they may not actually see ‘exciting’ summer signing play much this season

Wrexham fans may be waiting a while to see one summer signing in regular action for their club.

Phil Parkinson was backed heavily during the 2024 summer transfer window with nine new faces arriving at the Racecourse Ground.

A few of those names have already become key figures for Parkinson in the 2024/25 campaign.

After returning to the club from Arsenal on a free transfer, Arthur Okonkwo has been backed to go to the top, already putting in several stellar performances this term.

George Dobson has been tipped to win Wrexham Player of the Season after his sensational start to life in Wales following his move from Charlton Athletic.

However, there are still a number of summer additions who are yet to be really given a chance in Wrexham’s starting line-up.

Despite shinning in the 0-0 draw with Bolton Wanderers last month, Sebastian Revan is being kept out of the Wrexham XI by Ryan Barnett at right-back.

Why Wrexham fans may not see summer signing much this season

Elsewhere, the likes of Dan Scarr, Lewis Brunt and Modou Faal are all struggling to break into the eleven following their summer switches.

Wrexham signed Faal for a club-record fee of £590,000 late last month, with his price tag likely leading some fans to think they would see the 21-year-old become a regular starter straight away.

However, Faal has only played once since his transfer – a 25-minute cameo against Salford City in the EFL Trophy.

Now, speaking on the Rob. Ryan. Red podcast, The Athletic’s Wrexham reporter Richard Sutcliffe has suggested the striker may not play regularly at any point during 2024/25.

He said: “Mo’s obviously one for the future. It’ll be one of these that, it might be by January he might be knocking on the door but it might be next season.

“We’ve only seen him once in that Salford game and he was raw. He probably tried a bit too hard, if we’re honest.”

Why Modou Faal isn’t starting for Wrexham

Wrexham fans may be upset that the most expensive player to ever join their club is still yet to feature in the league.

And while the decision to not even give the forward some minutes off the bench is somewhat strange, Parkinson’s decision not to through Faal straight into the team does make sense.

Prior to moving to the Racecourse, the ex-West Brom man had very limited senior experience, the majority of which, barring one Championship outing, came in League Two during various loan spells.

As a result, the player will need time to get up to speed before he is ready to compete for a side who are challenging for the League One title.

Furthermore, Parkinson, who called Faal ‘exciting’ recently, already has a stacked striker department, so there is really no need to rush Faal’s development.

Paul Mullin is now back from injury, Jack Marriott is in red-hot form and both Steven Fletcher and Ollie Palmer are solid, experienced options to call upon.
