Wrexham have impressive secret weapon that gives them the edge in the League One promotion race

Wrexham have been named alongside Manchester City for a key statistic and it’s great news for their promotion push.

The Red Dragons’ journey over the last few years has been nothing short of remarkable.

Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds took the reigns at the Racecourse Ground in 2021 and after Phil Parkinson was brought into the dugout in 2022, Wrexham ended a 15-year stint in the National League and have since won back-to-back promotions.

Despite dominating in the previous two campaigns, there was some expectation that League One would be the club’s ceiling for the time being and they would be stuck in the third tier for at least one year.

However, while it is still very early stages, the Hollywood-owned club could be on course for a record three promotions on the spin.

Wrexham beat Crawley Town 2-1 in their last fixture, leaving them sitting joint-top of the League One table.

Second-place Birmingham City do have a game in hand right now, but one key stat could give Parkinson’s side an edge in the promotion race this season.

Wrexham named alongside Manchester City for key stat

Wrexham have had a remarkable start to 2024/25, with their only league loss coming away to Birmingham City on Monday.

On home soil though, the Welsh outfit have been in top form during the first six weeks of the current campaign.

Barring a 3-2 win over Wycombe Wanderers on the opening and conceding one to Crawley on Saturday, Wrexham have won all their home ties this term without conceding a single goal.

Now, it has been revealed that Parkinson’s team are on one of the longest unbeaten home runs in the EFL with eight victories now secured on the spin.

Wrexham are joint-fifth on the list along with Bristol City, while Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City take top spot with a staggering 33 home games won in a row.

Why Wrexham have advantage in League One promotion race

Being named in any list that includes the current Premier League champions is great for a side like Wrexham.

And while the Welsh side are some way off City’s 33-game winning streak, the fact they are the only League One side named on the list should help them in their promotion push this season.

The Red Dragons have dropped four points so far this term thanks to the Birmingham loss and 0-0 draw with Bolton Wanderers.

However, both of those fixtures were away from home and because they have so far won every fixture at the Racecourse, Wrexham are still top of the table.

Should they be able to continue that superb home winning streak in the coming months, it should help the club fend off competition from the likes of Birmingham and Barnsley as their home records are nowhere near as good.

Away ties are always tricky no matter who you face but a solid home record is so important for any side no matter what their goals are for the season.

And if by some miracle Wrexham did go on to match City’s record, they would almost certainly be guaranteed an automatic promotion place come April.
