Wrexham owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney are now trying to add their Hollywood appeal to another sports team.
The actors are in talks over buying shares in Hundred cricket team Welsh Fire, who are based in Cardiff.
Dan Cherry, the boss of Glamorgan County Cricket Club, which holds a 51% stake in the team, reckons their potential investment could be a “huge opportunity” for the sport.
He said it could inspire future sport stars to “pick up a bat and ball” and “build the game in Wales”.
“We’re really proud of our Welsh heritage,” he said.
“And we’ve seen the fantastic work that Ryan and Rob have done in engaging football fans in North Wales and building that brand globally.”
He added: “It gives huge opportunity to the game to expand its footing and to grow it, as we’ve seen with The Hundred, with lots of great crowds, family crowds coming in.
Cricket chiefs hopes this will raise about £500m. Deadpool star Ryan, 47, and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia actor Rob, 47, have transformed the Red Dragons’ fortunes since buying the club in 2020.
They oversaw Wrexham’s return to the English Football League for the first time in 15 years.
