Wrexham player with ‘so much ability’ may now be facing uncertain future under Parkinson amid loan struggles – opinion

One Wrexham player may struggle to get back into the team under Phil Parkinson amid his struggles while out on loan.

After making the step up to League One for the 2024/25 season, the Red Dragons opted to loan out several players for the current campaign.

Jordan Davies impressed for Wrexham in pre-season, but he has since joined Grimsby Town on loan.

29-year-old forward Billy Waters has moved to Halifax Town until the start of the January transfer window.

Jake Bickerstaff has joined Altrincham FC and goalkeeper Luke McNicholas has signed for Rochdale until the end of 2024/25.

Elsewhere, centre-forward Sam Dalby has made the move up to Scotland, signing for Dundee United on a season-long loan deal.

Dalby has since been reunited with former Wrexham ace Louis Moult after the latter also secured a move to Dundee United.

Wrexham ace Sam Dalby struggling on loan with Dundee United

Dalby joined Wrexham from Southend United in August 2022 for an undisclosed transfer fee.

He has so far played 88 times for the Welsh outfit, scoring 12 and assisting 13 in said appearances.

For Dundee United, however, the 24-year-old is really struggling to recapture his top form.

He has so far made four appearances for the Scottish side but is still yet to find the back of the net.

Current Wrexham striker Steven Fletcher offered Dalby advice following the move as the 37-year-old has also plied his trade for Dundee United.

But so far, the Englishman is struggling to get up to speed in his new surroundings and could now be facing an uncertain future under Phil Parkinson as a result.

Sam Dalby may be facing uncertain Wrexham future

Over the summer, Parkinson was told Dalby has ‘so much ability’ by one journalist but the Wrexham manager still opted to loan him out.

Unfortunately for Dalby, his loan struggles could now lead to him facing an uncertain future at the Racecourse Ground.

Parkinson already has five quality centre-forwards to choose from this season with Paul Mullin, Ollie Palmer, Jack Marriott, Modou Faal and Flecther fighting for two spots.

There is still room for Dalby to break back into Parkinson’s thinking but if he continues to underperform with Dundee United, that is very unlikely to happen.

To make matters worse for the striker, his current contract with the Welsh side is due to expire at the end of the 2024/25 season.

As a result, unless he starts playing a lot better during his stint in Scotland, it is hard to see Wrexham wanting to offer him a new deal at the club given how stacked their centre-forward department already is without him there.
