Wrexham released list of four players to sign before the transfer deadline as Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney ponder late swoop

The transfer window is almost over, but Wrexham could still make a late swoop to bolster their squad.

Wrexham are playing in League One for the first time in 20 years, and so far they are making a decent fist of it.

Phil Parkinson’s side are unbeaten in their opening three games, taking seven points from a possible nine with wins against Wycombe Wanderers and Reading either side of a draw with Bolton Wanderers.

The Welsh club have enjoyed back-to-back promotions under the ownerships of Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, with their resources and star power bringing in some pretty big names.

This summer has been another busy one for Wrexham, with no fewer than seven players arriving on permanent deals.

High-potential youngsters Arthur Okonkwo, Sebastian Revan and Lewis Brunt have been joined by experienced League One players including Dan Scarr, Ollie Rathbone and George Dobson.

There could be a few more departures before the window closes on Friday evening, with fringe players like Billy Waters, Anthony Forde, Jake Bickerstaff and Sam Dalby needing minutes.

Parkinson would no-doubt like another signing to help his side push for promotion to the Championship. With that in mind, here are five names they could target.

Michael Smith

Though striker Paul Mullin has returned from the injury that kept him out of Wrexham’s pre-season tour of the USA, the Red Dragons could do with bringing in a striker to ease the goal burden on the 29-year-old.

Sheffield Wednesday’s Michael Smith could be an option, as the 32-year-old has entered the final 12 months of his contract.

Though Smith has not started in any of Wednesday’s opening three Championship matches, in 2022-23 he scored an impressive 16 goals in 39 League One outings.

Will Keane

Former Manchester United striker Will Keane is certainly Championship pedigree, having scored 13 league goals for Preston North End last season.

He tore up League One with Wigan three years ago, scoring 26 times in 44 outings.

According to reports, Wrexham have had a club-record bid in the region of £750,000 rejected by Preston.

Should they come back with an improved offer, don’t rule out the move happening.

Josh Adam

Another Premier League academy graduate could make a smart signing.

Josh Adam – who City signed from Celtic in 2020 – was released by the Premier League champions when his contract expired this summer. Last term he made 16 appearances in the Premier League 2.

While inexperienced in senior football, signing Adam would be an inexpensive way of providing cover for Wrexham attacking midfielder Elliott Lee.

Mo Faal

Wrexham are reportedly interested in West Brom youngster Mo Faal, but they will have to act quick to snap up the 21-year-old.

The striker is reportedly close to joining fellow League One side Barnsley on loan after impressing on loan at Walsall last term.
