Steven Fletcher admits playing in front of co-owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney always gives Wrexham’s players a lift.

The Red Dragons are back in the third-tier of the EFL for the first time in almost 20 years and started the new League One campaign with a 3-2 win over Wycombe Wanderers.

Wrexham are among the favourites for the title having won back-to-back promotions in the last two years and have strengthened again over the summer.

Both Reynolds and McElhenney – along with Desperate Housewives star Eva Longoria – were in attendance at The Racecourse on Saturday to see Wrexham start the season with a bang – and Fletcher feels their presence gives the team a boost.

Speaking post-match, he said: “It’s always a lift, you can’t say it’s not. It all gives us a lift when they’re there, they bring a presence when they walk into the changing room. They were in before the game and there’s no pressure with it, no one’s taken aback, they’re just one of the lads with the way they come in which is good.”

The veteran striker went on to stress that the Hollywood duo never overstep the mark and simply leave Phil Parkinson to manage the team.

He added: “There’s no messages (before the game). They don’t put any added pressure, they would never get involved in the football side, they leave that to the gaffer.

“They just come in as enthusiastic as they are and it’s infectious. Everyone wants to talk to them, you’d be daft if you didn’t, and they go around the whole changing room, they won’t miss anyone.”

Fletcher’s comments echo that of new signing George Dobson, who joined Wrexham after leaving Charlton Athletic at the end of last season. The midfielder, speaking in an exclusive interview with Mirror Football, said of Reynolds and McElhenney: “The club’s got strong ambitions and obviously we’ll be pushing to do as well as we can, but at the same time realise what a tough league it is.
