Oliver Glasner says 20-year-old academy star will play for Crystal Palace vs Nottingham Forest

Oliver Glasner has now confirmed that a Crystal Palace academy star will be involved in the Premier League clash against Nottingham Forest.

The Austrian will be without a number of important attackers at the City Ground – with Michael Olise, Odsonne Edouard and Matheus Franca all ruled out through injury.

While those three absences are major blows for Crystal Palace, the injuries have now opened the door for one academy talent to make a name for himself…

Oliver Glasner says Crystal Palace academy star will be involved against Nottingham Forest

Well, this is fantastic news.

Speaking in his press conference on Friday, Oliver Glasner confirmed that Roshaun Maturin will travel to the City Ground as part of the matchday squad, after the 20-year-old impressed him in a friendly against Millwall over the international break.

The 49-year-old is quoted by the South London Press as saying: “Roshaun (Mathurin) will be with us tomorrow in the squad because he scored against Millwall and he deserves it. I liked how they showed up in Marbella. I told them, show your strengths, don’t worry about mistakes.”

Now, that is so, so refreshing to hear.

After Roy Hodgson criticised the likes of Naouirou Ahamada, Franca and Jesurun Rak-Sakyi earlier this season, comments like these will be music to the ears of Crystal Palace fans everywhere.

The 76-year-old also substituted Rak-Sakyi early on at Old Trafford in the Carabao Cup back in October, before highlighting issues in his performance, so it feels great to now have a manager who encourages young talent to express themselves, rather than have them worry about making a mistake.

Roshaun Maturin does deserve his chance

Glasner claimed that Mathurin “deserves” to be involved against Nottingham Forest, and the man from Salzburg is spot on.

The winger has actually become something of a fan favourite – mainly on social media – after delivering a number of outstanding performances under the name of Trialist B following his release from Tottenham back in June 2023.

Crystal Palace quickly signed Mathurin up, and the Londoner is clearly doing something right – Glasner has even kept him involved in training at Copers Cope following the end of the Marbella trip.

Hopefully, the youngster gets a chance to make his Premier League debut for Crystal Palace against Nottingham Forest.
