Leeds’ hopes of finishing top of the Championship were at their highest heading into the international break last month, but have been dealt significant blows since with Daniel Farke’s side seeing their form drop off a cliff since.

From being unbeaten in 2024 and dropping just two points, Leeds have won two of the last season, losing three and winning just eight points from a possible 21.

Confirmation of the league title heading to the King Power Stadium came last night with the Foxes cruising to a 3-0 win at Deepdale against Preston.

It leaves the Foxes with the opportunity to finish in 100 points for the season, having lost 10 times with Leeds only on nine defeats and Ipswich on an impressive six.

The Tractor Boys have two games remaining, needing four points to guarantee their place in the top flight next term, with the first of those coming tonight away at Coventry City.

Leicester fan Gary Lineker is of course delighted that his side have got over their recent slump to get over the line in the Championship promotion race.

Speaking on The Rest Is Football podcast with Leeds-born Micah Richards, he said this:

“I feel a bit for Leeds fans because I know what it’s been like for Leicester. You have to get back in the Premier League and Ipswich are now favourites to do that.

“Leeds look like they may drift into the play-offs. Micah’s head slumps to the ground.”

Leicester have been the best team in the league this season, so them winning the league is of course deserved.

However, it could have been wildly different if we held our nerve in the recent games, particularly against Blackburn and Sunderland.

One point out of six in those games has crippled our chances of automatics, and we’ll need a minor miracle from here to go up in the top two.
