48-year-old manager sacked two months ago tip to replace Espirito Santo after watched Forest defeat from Director’s Box

A 48-year-old manager who was sacked two months ago watched Nottingham Forest from the Director’s Box yesterday.

The Reds played brilliantly but went down 2-0 to Manchester City at the City Ground as their relegation worries remain.

Goals from Josko Gvardiol and Erling Haaland gave the reigning champions their win and clearly, the pressure is on Nuno Espirito Santo.

It’s just one win in 10 games for Forest and they face relegated Sheffield United at Bramall Lane next weekend.

Now, a manager who is currently out of work was spotted in the Director’s Box during this game and Forest might be weighing up their options.

Tim Walter watches Nottingham Forest defeat

Well, this is an intriguing one and is probably the kind of distraction that Forest could do without ahead of three massive games.

Walter hasn’t been in work since being sacked by Hamburg two months ago and is on the lookout for another job.

It wouldn’t appear as though Espirito Santo is in any immediate danger but perhaps a change is on the cards for the summer.

According to Sky Germany, Walter watched the Forest defeat from the Director’s Box and now speculation has started.

Espirito Santo has been dealt a bit of a bad hand really, given that he won two of his first three games and then lost some of his squad.

Several players went off to the African Cup of Nations and that decimated the squad for a month or so.

Walter has only managed in Germany so far and departed Hamburg in February after three years in charge.

He oversaw 51 wins from 104 games in charge of the club and also had a 55% win ratio during 20 games as manager of Stuttgart.

Forest should stick with Espirito Santo if survival is secured

The Reds will have a decision to make during the summer transfer window but if the club survives relegation, Espirito Santo deserves a chance.

With a full pre-season and a say in the transfers, the Portuguese boss could thrive at Forest.

Given that Steve Cooper was allowed the chance to build something, it seems only right that Espirito Santo is afforded the same luxury.

If Forest are to be relegated then the manager doesn’t really have a leg to stand on and then Walter could become an option.

Walter looks like a risk Forest can’t afford to take

This would be extremely risky from a Forest perspective and perhaps a bigger name would be more welcomed.

Walter was dismissed from his last job after failing to get Hamburg on track for a return to the Bundesliga.

He’s never worked anywhere other than Germany and that in itself would represent a bit of a risk.

Still, at 48, he’s hardly old for a head coach and perhaps Forest view Walter as someone who could come in and make a difference on the pitch.
